Record S(tore) Day
Today is the second annual Record Store Day… a would-be holiday that the music industry and independent retailers created to help bring awareness to the struggle of the beloved music stores of the world. It seems that these stores and the rest of “the biz” have suffered greatly as of late do to the ubiquity of “home taping” or “downloading”. Shame that is… I would hardly know where to find a record store these days… and… truth be told, I’ve been scoring cool records like crazy at thrift stores, yard sales and swap meets. I was boasting this fact to my pal Tony who told me, “this is the best time to find cool records in the last 25 years.” Is this because of itunes??? the recession??? crystal meth???? Who cares!?!!
I’ve bought about 50 records just this week, all at an average of less than $1 a piece… these are some pics of a few. All except the Hawkwind record are in great condition too… many (Godz, BDP, Purps, the Time, New Order) were even still sealed and had posters and shit.
“Honk” is the soundtrack to a classic surf movie. The Lynyrd Skynyrd record has original art (they had the flames removed cuz of the plane crash). I’m also really surprised at how much I enjoy the Triumph record. Dennis Wilson “Pacific Ocean Blue”… tight!
I’ve had a lil’ luck on the style tip too. Found this cool vintage hoodie with Pushead art that is similar to the Metallica art he did for Zorlac.
This next one is the baby. It’s a racoon fur collar that has big square back with two tails and a cute face. Road warrior style… So sick!
