Battle of the Pentagram covers

July 7, 2009

Let’s get ready to rumble…

I’m still juiced on all the recent Pentagram activity and caught their killer set last Friday. If only more bands these days had a clue, they could see Bobby perform and he would, no doubt, SHOW EM HOW it’s done. The man is a consumate performer. Long may he guide his mighty band. In the spirit of all this ‘Gram going around, I have chosen a couple vids of Pentagram covers for consideration in a BATTLE OF THE PENTAGRAM COVERS.

My vote goes to the RTX version of “Vampyre Love” from a performance in 2006. RTX had been jamming that tune for quite a while (Jennifer grew up attending Pentagram shows) so I also feel like once again Ms. Mosshart has ripped her off….Ridic!!!! Also, the dudes in Dead Weather are bumming me out with their matching old timey guitars. Give me a Floyd Rose any day of the week. In fact, the whole of Dead Weather is a bummer… like the kind of thing that reeks of cocaine… ya know, like David Crosby driving his Porsche to Stephen Stills house where they could toss off to their music all the while feeling like they are doing the world unestimatible good… either that or just an exercise in check cashing.

UHHH also…….. Ms. Mosshart pre rip-off…….curious transformation

I saw them last night and was a little disappointed. It was fun watching Bobby though. He’s a nut.

thanks for this!!! long live pentagram! SCREW THAT POSEUR CHICK!!!! seriously she sucks ass and has no biz covering a band she most likely has never heard of ……….it’s hilarious watching her continuously rip off Jennifer….first she hit up the Royal Trux pose, now she went out and trying to front her own “ROCK” band like JJ in RTX!! Where is the fucking justice!?

RTX owns that jam and comes correct! Huge applause for authentic swagger…

I am ready to rumble! While I hail from DC, don’t front that I used to go see Pentagram all back in the day — but rather think Brother Liebling would only co-sign the great RTX homage. I never waste my time on Jack White’s simulated “rock & roll” projects (don’t like “artists” who mime rock instead of BEING it); nor do I give credence to fashion darlings like the Kills…but even to the casual observer, it has been glaringly obvious that that Mosshart person is so keen on thieving Ms. Herrema’s intellectual property and very essence from the start of her curious transformation. The clip of Mosshart’s former band — which apparently she labors very hard to bury — clearly shows she could never come up with creative concepts of the magnitude of Royal Trux or RTX…yet she thinks cigarette/skintight jeans/leaning mummery is shoring up her cool and profits. Hey, it hoodwinked Jack White and all the fashion mags, but it’s really just pathetic. This is the true problem of rock & roll now: everyone thinks they can buy/ripoff authenticity instead of being an original and working hard — is it any accident that James Brown and his acolyte are gone? Jennifer Herrema has too much class and smarts to be lowered into this fray, but if it were me I would sue this bitch!

PS: those dead weather dudes know that Luke Doucet and myriad other actual canyon rock followers already scooped the white falcon cult quite awhile back, don’t they?

There’s a Youtube user named ‘HebinoMetaru’ who posted a couple vids of his band covering Pentagram. They do pretty interesting covers of the Death Row era of the band, like ‘The Ghoul’ and ‘Relentless’. Check em out.

re Mosshart…yes, she’s on board the little bus on the way to Rock School.
Happily, JJ offers mystic medicines to clear the air, pipes and intestines.
In a reference to ancient cultures, Mosshart has the received, industry-styled affectation of rock essence comparable to an Allie Sheedie in Breakfast Club.
Dead Weather’s appearance on Conan was embalmed ‘alternative culture’, now so antique, lifeless and sorry it flushed the cheeks with flashes of regret.
I will not go into the horror of sitting in a dark movie theatre watching Jack White in some rock geezer trio documentary at this time.
Reassuringly, the discerning listener can rest assured JJ floats on high, observing this mess with mirth, one hopes patching her warrior jeans in gnostic preparation to stoop to conquer and really bring this sloppy student some serious schooling…
